| Symbol
for European Bank for Reconstruction &
Development.
Client EBRD Paris/London.
Winner of international competition to design
a symbol that embraced the coming together of
East & West when the Berlin Wall and communism
fell in 1989 and to confront costs of environmental
issues. The bank was the initiative of France
and the UK to finance and assist redevelopment
in Eastern Europe with contributions from all
countries so the symbol had to also have a global
component.
The symbol was designed on a
serviette in a cafe and the original was presented
in green. However President François Mitterrand
and Prime Minister John Major requested change
to blue found in the French and British flags.
